Three live hand grenades found on the ground opposite the MM Mullana University Campus on Ambala-Chandigarh road were successfully diffused by teams of Baldevnagar police station on Sunday.
A multi-storey under-construction building of a medical college is also near the ground, they said.
Police said the matter came to light when one of the labourers working in the under-construction building went to the ground this morning and noticed bomb-like articles lying there.
The labourer reported the matter to his supervisor, who informed the police. On receiving the information, the Superintendent of Police (SP) Jashandeep Singh Randhawa and his team reached the spot. Jashandeep supervised the work to defuse the bombs by the police and forensic teams. He ordered an evacuation and restricted the zone to only allow the bomb defuse squad to enter.
The squad defused all the three live hand grenades. Police said that it could not be ascertained how the hand grenades reached there. The matter is being investigated, they said.
The Baldevnagar police registered a case under the Explosive Act 1884.
The SP also appealed to the people to be careful when they come across a suspicious object and not touch it as it may be explosive.
