AgenciesManipur's caretaker chief minister N Biren Singh, former minister Thongam Biswajit Singh and last assembly speaker Yumnam Khemchand Singh left for New Delhi on Saturday as BJP leadership looks to finally name the new chief minister, more than a week after election results.
One of the three is expected to become the next Manipur chief minister, said a senior party leader who requested not to be named.
"While Biren is eyeing a second term, Biswajit and Khemchand are contenders for chief ministerial post," the leader said. "On Saturday, these leaders are summoned to New Delhi for discussion." BJP has won 32 seats in the 60-member Manipur assembly. There are multiple contenders for the chief minister's post, party insiders said.
Biren, Biswajit and state party president A Sarda Devi had visited New Delhi on Tuesday and met BJP's central leadership.
