Yogi Adityanath will be sworn in as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh in a grand ceremony at Lucknow’s Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium on March 25. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to be present during the swearing-in ceremony.
According to BJP sources, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and top leaders of the party, and chief ministers of various BJP-ruled states will be present in the ceremony. Along with Adityanath, some of the ministers of the new Cabinet will also take oath that day.
According to a PTI report, seating arrangements for 75,000 people are being made at the stadium.
Additional Chief Secretary (Information) Navneet Sehgal, who on Saturday visited the stadium, said the preparations for the swearing-in ceremony are being done under Chief Secretary D S Mishra. “Seating arrangements for 75,000 people are being made at the swearing-in ceremony. The programme will be a grand and splendid one, and preparations are already underway,” PTI quoted Sehgal as saying.
“Apart from party workers from each mandal unit of the party, beneficiaries of various welfare schemes will be invited to attend the oath-taking ceremony. The support of labhaarthi (welfare scheme beneficiaries) played a crucial role in the party’s win in this election,” said a BJP leader.
Opposition party leaders like Samwajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and BSP president Mayawati would also be invited, said the party leader.
Ahead of the ceremony, Shah and former Jharkhand chief minister and party’s national vice-president Raghubar Das are likely to reach Lucknow by Tuesday as central observers of the party to attend the meeting of the newly elected BJP MLAs.
“The MLAs are in their respective constituencies for Holi Milan programmes and they have not been communicated about the schedule of the meeting yet. This means that a meeting of the BJP Legislature Party for the formal election of their leader will be held either on Monday or Tuesday. After that meeting, discussions will be held on selection of ministers,” said a BJP leader.
In the past few days, the party’s top brass has met at least twice in New Delhi. CM-designate Yogi Aditayanth was in Delhi earlier this week to meet the PM and top leaders.
The BJP returned to power with 255 seats in the 403-seat Assembly, becoming the first party to retain power in the state for a second term since 1985.
