Senior Congress leader and former CM Siddaramaiah on Thursday threw his weight behind Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi saying that the party will emerge stronger and lead the nation under their leadership. He described the recent rout in the recent assembly elections in five states as a temporary setback.

Siddaramaiah's statement follows a grouping of senior Congress leaders, called G-23, rallying up against the leadership of the Gandhis after the recent electoral losses in a bid to force the party to effect major changes to restore its earlier clout with the electorate.
The former chief minister said in a statement that the Congressmen and leaders in Karnataka have full faith in the Gandhis and were complete with them, and added that the party will face the assembly elections in the southern state, due for next year, with the same confidence and give an electoral victory to the party.

It is unfortunate that some of those who forced Sonia Gandhi back to active politics are opposing her now. When she was grieving her husband's sacrifice for the nation, it was the same people who thought only she can save the Congress, the former chief minister said. She sacrificed the PM's position in 2004 after leading the party to victory, he added.
