Roshni Nadar Malhotra, Chairperson, HCL Technologies, a $11.2 billion global technology company powered by over 198,000 employees, across 52 countries, also wears the hat of the chairperson of its CSR Board Committee.

Under her leadership, HCL’s commitment and adherence to ESG (environment, social and governance) guidelines over the years has continued to evolve. “We firmly believe the integration of ESG programmes into our strategies and company goals is critical as we chart a path towards creating sustainable value for our clients, employees, investors, and the communities where we live and work,” Malhotra stated during the 29th annual general meeting of the company. HCL was named a leader in the Edelweiss ESG Scorecard and Ratings in the IT/ITES, BFSI and Consumer categories.

Leader with a Cause

Some of these aspects that reflect in the company’s ethos have been close to her heart and can be seen in the slew of activities she has been engaged in. A trustee of the Shiv Nadar Foundation that has invested $988 million in nation-building institutions and driving transformational leadership, Malhotra is also the chairperson and driving force behind VidyaGyan.

This leadership academy for the economically underprivileged, meritorious, rural students of Uttar Pradesh has been working towards nurturing future leaders from rural India who can be catalysts of change for their communities, villages and the nation at large.

Even the movie and TV series she has invested in, such as Halkaa that delves into open defecation issues and On The Brink about endangered species, drive home important societal and environmental messages.

Tech as change agent

In her address, Malhotra reminded that the pandemic was one of the greatest re-affirmations that science and technology are and will continue to be powerful engines of human progress. “This integration of technology with the human spirit has become ‘the new essential’ for ensuring continuity and progress across ecosystems,” she said.

The radical changes resulting from the pandemic spurred the acceleration of digital transformation in business enterprises around the world, and HCL, with its culture of ideapreneurship and a vibrant ecosystem of innovation, helped businesses steer through this transition. Its industry-leading performance in FY21, where it exceeded the $10-billion annual revenue mark was a pivotal milestone for the company.
