On March 6, the driver and his aides robbed two college students at knifepoint near the railway gauge in the Mangalwar Peth area. The victim, Anup Shigokar (18), a resident of Model Colony in Shivajinagar lodged an FIR in this case at the Faraskhana police station.

Anup and his friend Sarthak Malkhede took an auto-rickshaw around 5.45 pm for going to the private bus stand in Sangamwadi. But the auto-rickshaw driver took the duo to a public road near the railway gauge in Mangalwar Peth. Then the driver and his three aides threatened them at knifepoint and robbed Rs 1,000 in cash from them. They also snatched a cell phone and forced the students to transfer Rs 1,800 and Rs 2,000 through a digital payment application.

A similar robbery also took place in the Shivajinagar area on the same day. An investigation revealed that the two accused involved in the crime went to an ATM centre in Shivajinagar and the auto-rickshaw they had used for robbery was stolen from the Kothrud area. Police identified Abhishekh and arrested him from Kothrud. He and his three aides, including two minor boys, targeted passengers during the midnight hours, police said.
