Market LIVE: Sensex rises 800 pts, Nifty climbs 16,900; Hang Seng surges 8%

Stock market LIVE updates: The benchmark indices pare early losses as inventors keenly await the US Fed's outcome after the two-day meet. Broad-based gains were seen across sectors, with Metal and Realty stocks gaining steam. The BSE Sensex was up over 700 points at 56,544, while the Nifty50 climbed above 16,900 levels. 

Axis Bank, Ultratech Cement, IndusInd Bank, Eicher Motors, Bajaj Twins, Bajaj Auto, Tata Motors and Kotak Bank were leading the upmove, trading up to 3.5 per cent higher. Shree Cement and Tata Steel were the additional gainers on the Nifty50. 

On the flip side, Cipla, Sun Pharma, Tata Consumer, and Power Grid were the sole losers on the bourses.  

The broader markets were also in green, with the BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices trading up to 1.4 per cent higher.

The overall market breadth was positive with 2,272 advancing stocks on the BSE as against 798 declining ones. India VIX index also cooled off by 6 per cent to 25 levels.
