
Launched only nine days back, Pune Metro rail has become a centre of attraction for the residents as over 2.5 lakh of them have already availed of the service, fetching Rs 35 lakh in revenue, according to officials.
Pune Metro rail was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 6 and the service was thrown open to public in the afternoon.
Presently, Metro rail runs on two stretches β from Garware college to Vanaz (5 km) and PCMC to Phugewadi (7 km); both the stretches have five stations each. Everyday, the Metro rail undertakes 27 rides in each direction of both the stretches at a gap of every half-an-hour. The first train sets out at 8 am while the last trip begins at 9 pm.
βThe Pune Metro rail service is getting tremendous response from citizens. There have been over 2.5 lakh passengers on the Metro rail since its launch. The fare revenue collection has been over Rs 35 lakh in last nine days since launch on March 6,β said Hemant Sonawane, spokesperson for Pune Metro rail, which is being implemented by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (Maha-Metro).
The service has been a hit with people of all age groups with many taking to social media sites to share their experience, he added.
The Pune Metro rail fare ranges between Rs 10 and Rs 20. The cost of a ride from PCMC to Sant Tukaram Nagar and Bhosari is Rs 10 whereas for PCMC to Kasarwadi and Phugewadi, Rs 20 is charged. Similarly, from Vanaz to Anand Nagar and Ideal Colony the fare is Rs 10, while from Vanaz to Nalstop and Garware College it is Rs 20. The fare for the return tickets between the terminal stations has been kept at Rs 30.
Citizens wishing to travel in Pune Metro can book their ticket using a mobile app as well.
