Delhi High Court on Tuesday directed the former Rajya Sabha MP Sharad Yadav to hand over the possession of his government bungalow in the national capital to the Centre within 15 days. The court passed the order while vacating an interim order passed in favour of Yadav in 2017.
"These are perks are attached to the office and not conferred personally on any person," said the division bench of Acting Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Navin Chawla in the order.
Former JD(U) MP Yadav, who was disqualified as a member of Rajya Sabha in December 2017, had challenged the RS Chairman’s order in the high court. Though the court had then refused to stay the disqualification, it allowed Yadav to retain the official accommodation at 7, Tughlaq Road, during the pendency of the petition.
Centre last month approached the High Court seeking directions for Yadav's eviction from the government bungalow, saying that he ceased to be a parliamentarian in 2017 but continues to retain the residence. It stated that as many as 43 new Union ministers were inducted in the Cabinet reshuffle last year but it is “unable to provide accommodation to all of them as per their entitlement”. When Yadav was issued a notice for vacation in October 2021, the ministry said, he refused to vacate it on the ground that the matter is sub-judice.

To push the public towards adopting e-vehicles, the Delhi government has kept the charging price very low at Rs 2 per unit.
Jain also announced that tenders for installation of the 100 stations have been awarded: “12 bidders came forward for the tender and the winning bid was at the rate of minus Rs 3.60/unit. This means instead of charging users for the service, they will be incentivised. It is noteworthy that charging stations in Delhi up to a load of 22kW will run at a rate of Rs 2 per unit. Usually, cities charge upwards of Rs 10 per unit for the same and even go as high as Rs 15 per unit. Agreements for the charging stations will be finalised by April 8 and they will be operational by June 27.”
The Aam Aadmi Party protested outside the BJP headquarters Monday, against the alleged delay in holding MCD elections. The State Election Commission (SEC) had deferred the announcement of municipal polls last week, hours after it called a press conference stating that the elections would be held in April 2022.
The AAP alleged that the BJP had “coerced” the SEC to delay polls for “political gains”. On Monday, AAP Delhi state convenor Gopal Rai said, “I challenge BJP to make sure that MCD elections are announced in a week’s time if it doesn’t fear AAP. No one expected that we’d need to agitate to get MCD elections conducted after our historic victory in Punjab.”
According to the SEC, the polls have not been delayed and it will take a legal opinion on holding elections in light of the Centre’s plan to reunify the three MCDs.
