Vijay Shekhar Sharma, CEO of Paytm was arrested by Delhi Police last month and later released on bail for a situation of rash driving. As per the police, the Paytm organiser was purportedly driving a Jaguar Land Rover that hit the vehicle of the District Commissioner of Police of South Delhi.
As indicated by the complaint, the speeding Land Rover hit DCP Benita Mary Jaiker's vehicle outside Mother's International School on February 22. Sharma ran away from the spot.
The DCP's vehicle was being driven by her driver, constable Deepak Kumar. He noted down the number of the Land Rover and quickly informed the DCP, police said.
After primer examination, police observed that the vehicle is enlisted to an organisation in Gurgaon. Individuals of the organisation let that police know that the vehicle is with Vijay Shekhar Sharma, who lives in South Delhi.
Delhi Police representative Suman Nalwa affirmed that police had arrested Vijay Shekhar Sharma for rash or careless driving and later released him on bail.
Paytm spokesperson said that a complaint was filed in connection with an alleged minor motor vehicle incident. There was no harm caused to any person or property in the said incident.
Media reports claiming the nature of the arrest are exaggerated, as even the complaint against the vehicle was for a minor offense under a bailable provision of law and requisite legal formalities were completed on the same day, the spokesperson added.
Recently, the Reserve Bank of India asked Vijay Shekhar Sharma-elevated Paytm Payments Bank to quit opening new records in the midst of material supervisory concerns in the bank.
