Primary probe suggests that the attacker fled on a bike. A 15-year-old girl was critically injured after she was attacked multiple times with a knife allegedly by a 21-year-old man on the premises of a school in Pune on Monday morning. The man, who is suspected to have been stalking her and making advances, later attempted death by suicide by consuming a poisonous substance, police said.
The incident took place at 10.45 am on Monday when a farewell function was organised for the students of Class 10 at Lady Teherunnisa Inamdar School in Vadgaon Sheri. The girl is a Class 10 student from the school and is from the batch that is appearing for the upcoming SSC exam.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Rohidas Pawar said, βThe incident took place near the classrooms. The attacker inflicted multiple injuries on the girl, including on her stomach and wrist. She was taken to the hospital by school authorities and is undergoing treatment. She is stable and has been kept under observation. We have been told her father had approached school authorities a week ago complaining about the boy after he had threatened her. They had not approached us.”

Senior inspector Yunus Shaikh of Yerawada police station said, “After attacking the girl, the man went home and consumed a poisonous substance. He is unconscious and is undergoing treatment at a hospital. There are many aspects about the incident and the events leading up to it that are still not known to us as we are yet to speak to the girl and the attacker.”
Imran Shaikh, a friend of the girl’s father, said, “The girl has a serious injury on the stomach. The man also stabbed her on the back, chest and wrist. She is slated to undergo a surgery. A week ago, the man had threatened to harm her family as she was not responding to his advances. The father had complained to the school and was going to approach the police soon.”
