Law student jumps to death from 5th floor of Gurgaon society

No suicide note was recovered, and police have initiated inquest proceedings under CrPC section 174.

Police said the victim was studying law in a college in Sector 40 and had an exam scheduled on Saturday.

A 19-year-old first-year college student died after allegedly jumping off the fifth floor of a residential society in Sector 102 on Friday evening, said police. No suicide note was recovered, and police have initiated inquest proceedings under CrPC section 174.

According to police, the incident was reported around 6.30 pm on Friday. Police said the victim was studying law in a college in Sector 40 and had an exam scheduled on Saturday.

A police officer, requesting anonymity, said, “We received information from the emergency response system, following which a team from Dhankot police post rushed to the spot. The victim’s mother and grandmother were in the house at the time of the incident. According to them, he asked for milk in the evening and told them that he was going out to purchase a pen for his exam on Saturday. A few minutes later, he allegedly jumped from the stairwell space on the fifth floor. Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide. The reason for the suicide is not known.”

Police said the victim’s family have not mentioned that he was under any stress due to exams or otherwise.

Police said he suffered multiple injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The victim’s father was at work at the time. His brother is studying abroad.

“The victim’s phone was in his pocket at the time of the incident; we have sent it to the forensic team. An inquest report has been lodged. The post-mortem will be conducted on Sunday as the victim’s brother is yet to arrive,” said a police officer.
