1. Ideal Layout and Server
One of the first stepping stones of any website, blog or news portal - a user friendly interface and a great, well-equipped server. If your server isn't equipped to handle traffic or multimedia assets, there goes your scalability down the drain. It also adds to user experience and maintains a sense of trust and reliance. A website layout is an investment which you shouldn't compromise on, it is like the foundation where your house will be built on. Another important factor to consider is that if your website crashes or overloads if a large number of viewers visit it. They will eventually lose interest in your website. In a cutting-edge environment, it is important to pay utmost importance to user interface and experience.
2. Positioning and Audience Analysis
Before you begin working on any content piece or your social handle or news portal, do an audience analysis. Get into their shoes, minds, pockets and hearts to know what audience you want to cater to and generate content for them. Also make this a regular habit to track traffic, what demographic is landing on your page, what age group, what content is getting more traction and update your strategy accordingly. Ultimately you are in the business to serve and bring the best to your audience. It is also about consistently maintaining the interest of your audience. To maintain interest, you must regularly add value to them. The only way to add value is then to understand who your audience is, what are their interests and what kind of content do they want to engage themselves in.
3. SEO IS The new King
SEO which is search engine optimization is the king that is reigning the digital media these days. Without SEO You are left with nothing. Make sure every content piece is SEO optimized, your website is SEO friendly enabling more businesses and a greater audience landing on your page. It also labels your website having more credibility if it appears right on the top whenever an important news piece is searched for. The more people that come to your website, the more leverage you have to monetize the same. It also opens up a vast arena for you to experiment with and update to once your SEO and return rate is strong.
4. Patience will take you places
If you are expecting your web site to take off within just 3 or 6 months of launching, you can't be more wrong. One article or content piece might fly off the shelves but consistency is key and it directly affects your audience and their trust. The More consistent you are, the more committed you come off as. So be patient and believe in your goal. Don't consider short term failures or setbacks as the final result and draw conclusions. Trust your vision and keep going. This doesn't mean that you don't analyze where you are lacking or not making any changes or improvements with every set back. Understand the difference between not giving up and not improving.
6. Practice > Theory
The market is dynamic, trends change every day, new platforms emerge every time. Make sure to get in the game. Until and unless you practice what you preach, you aren't going anywhere. Make sure you are open to try different routes. Be dynamic and keep evolving. Don't restrict yourself to formulas and theories. Try, experiment, analyze and learn. What you believed would work, may not give you the results you expected. Until and unless you try and test, you won't know what will work. In an ever evolving world, theory might become obsolete but your experience and practice never will.
