Shares of Cipla(up 5.76 per cent), Granules India(up 5.3 per cent), Laurus(up 4.38 per cent), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries(up 3.73 per cent) and Alkem Laboratories(up 2.45 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Abbott India(down 1.3 per cent), Gland Pharma(down 0.82 per cent), Natco Pharma(down 0.6 per cent), Biocon(down 0.38 per cent) and Strides Pharma Science(down 0.26 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Pharma index closed 2.46 per cent up at 13399.0.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended up 35.55 points at 16630.45, while the BSE Sensex stood up 85.91 points at 55550.3.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 29 ended in the green, while 21 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, YES Bank, Tata Motors, SAIL and PNB were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Maithan Alloys, GNFC, Avadh Sugar Energy, Sarda Energy and Zuari Global hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Karda Const, Akash Infra-Proj, Felix Industries, Vivo Collaboration Solutions Ltd. and P&G Health hit their fresh 52-week lows.
