BJP looks set to retain power in UP, Uttarakhand, Goa, Manipur

In line with exit poll predictions, the Bharatiya Janata Party is heading for a historic comeback in Uttar Pradesh. In fact, barring Punjab, where the Aam Aadmi Party has made a spectacular splash, the BJP looks set to win the election from the other four states.

As per data on the Election Commission website, the BJP was leading in 182 seats in UP, with the main contender Samajwadi Party ahead in 88 seats. The Bahujan Samaj Party and Congress were ahead in four seats. The majority mark in UP is 202 seats.

 

In Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party was ahead in 88 seats, with the ruling Congress ahead in just 13 seats. Interestingly, Capt Amarinder Singh was trailing from his stronghold, Patiala. The halfway mark here is 59 seats.

In Goa, the ruling BJP was ahead in 18 seats, with the Congress ahead in 12. The halfway mark is 20 seats.

In Uttarakhand, the ruling BJP was ahead in 37 seats, with the Congress at a distant 18 seats. The majority mark is 36 seats.

In Manipur, the BJP was ahead in 12 seats, with ally NPP ahead in five seats. The Congress is ahead in five seats. The halfway mark here is 30 seats.
