Sun Pharmaceutical Industries(up 3.44 per cent), Zydus Lifesciences(up 3.41 per cent), Lupin(up 2.77 per cent), Alkem Laboratories(up 2.59 per cent) and Dr Reddys Laboratories(up 2.58 per cent) were among the top gainers.
Alembic Pharmaceuticals(down 0.28 per cent) were the top losers on the index.
The Nifty Pharma index was up 1.88 per cent at 13086.85 at the time of writing this report.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was up 117.55 points at 16131.0, while the BSE Sensex was up 435.33 points at 53859.42.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 33 were trading in the green, while 16 were in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, YES Bank, ONGC, PNB and Bank of Baroda were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of TTK Healthcare, NDTV, Dwarikesh Sugar, Mangalam Global Ent and SEL Manufact hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Akash Infra-Proj, Easun Reyrolle, Usha Martin, Whirlpool India and Sansera Engineering Ltd. hit fresh 52-week lows in trade.
