Exide Industries(up 0.78 per cent), Amara Raja Batteries(up 0.43 per cent) and Bosch(up 0.31 per cent) were among the top gainers.
Maruti Suzuki(down 3.01 per cent), TIINDIA(down 2.34 per cent), Ashok Leyland(down 1.82 per cent), Eicher Motors(down 1.18 per cent) and Hero MotoCorp(down 1.1 per cent) were the top losers on the index.
The Nifty Auto index was down 1.15 per cent at 9371.65 at the time of writing this report.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 78.8 points at 15784.35, while the BSE Sensex was down 213.95 points at 52628.8.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 19 were trading in the green, while 31 were in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, ONGC, YES Bank, JP Power and Bank of Baroda were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Mawana Sugars, Future Enterprises (DVR), Dwarikesh Sugar, Bombay Metrics Supply Chain Ltd. and SEL Manufact hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Wockhardt, Akash Infra-Proj, SoftTech Engineers, Motherson Sumi and McNally Bharat hit fresh 52-week lows in trade.
