Newly appointed Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Pandey, in a facebook post late Wednesday night, shared his personal mobile number with the city residents, asking them to contact him directly while also seeking their suggestions. He further asked citizens to reach out to him on his Twitter profile as well.
Pandey took over as the Mumbai Police Commissioner from Hemant Nagrale on Monday.

Pandey, who as Maharashtra DGP had shared his mobile number with police constables and also interacted with them through social media platforms, plans to replicate the same method to reach out to the citizens.

In his facebook post, Pandey said, β€œWhile I am familiar with Mumbai, policing has changed from the days when I worked in Mumbai. And it is with this in mind that I am reaching out to you seeking your support to work towards maintaining safety and security for all in our city of Mumbai.”

He went on to add, β€œ I am sharing my personal number 9869702747. You can always reach out to me on WhatsApp/text messages as well as facebook or Twitter @sanjayp_1. Suggestions big or small are all welcome. I will respond to all the messages as far as possible…”

Pandey had last served in Mumbai city in the 1990s and was known for his work, especially in the Dharavi area where he was credited with controlling the fallout of the 1992-93 riots.

A few months back, the state’s ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government had appointed him as the DGP Maharashtra, before the Bombay High Court forced its hand to remove him since he was not selected in the list of three officers recommended by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The government then decided to remove him as the DGP but, within a few days, made him the Commissioner. He is due to retire in June.
