Shares of TIINDIA(up 0.23 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Ashok Leyland(down 6.53 per cent), Eicher Motors(down 3.93 per cent), Bharat Forge(down 2.83 per cent), Maruti Suzuki(down 2.8 per cent) and Tata Motors(down 2.35 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Auto index closed 2.28 per cent down at 10261.1.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 107.9 points at 16498.05, while the BSE Sensex stood down 366.22 points at 55102.68.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 17 ended in the green, while 32 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, YES Bank, Coal India Ltd, Vedanta and JP Power were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Future Enterprises (DVR), Nahar Poly Film, Excel Ind, Guj Mineral Dev. and ABB Power hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while UltraTech Cem., Ramco Cements, Shree Cements, Endurance Tech. and Hind Nat Glass hit their fresh 52-week lows.
