In a profession that is considered to be inaccessible for the visually impaired, the organisation always stood strong and tall with Rahul Gupta, living up to the ethos of diversity, equity, inclusion and meritocracy.
Recruited by one of India’s top private banks, as a young management trainee after completing his education from two of India’s most prestigious colleges, St Stephen’s College (2001-04) and Delhi School of Economics (2004-06), Gupta had a better than usual start to his professional journey. This only got richer each year with new challenges and ideas to deliver new solutions, new opportunities for their conversion to mainstream revenues.
Overcoming the Challenge
In spite of his severe visual limitations, he went toe-to-toe with his peers across educational and corporate life, competing hard yet fair. A capitalist in the brain and a socialist by heart, an economics student, and a business professional, Gupta believes, “A balanced blend will deliver happiness and prosperity for our lives and drive sustainability for generations to come.”
Australian captain, Steve Waugh’s autobiography ‘Out of My Comfort Zone’ has been a source of inspiration for him and encouraged him to strive and thrive. Testimony to this being the niche businesses in which he got an opportunity to front-lead for the Axis Bank across the 16 years of his diverse corporate banking career, both in India and in the UK.
Newer Frontiers
At Axis Bank, currently, besides scaling up the core business he is steering some growth potential projects that stand to deliver measurable developmental and ESG (environment, social, governance) impact in some of the key economic sectors of the country. Dovetailing professional experience with social consciousness, Gupta stayed committed to continuing working towards making a positive impact on stakeholders.
He has always been grateful to the visionary leadership, empowering managers, motivated team and collaborating colleagues, all terrains and turns became easy to manoeuvre for him.
