Benchmark NSE Nifty index fell 178.45 points to 16615.45 amid selling in frontline bluechip stocks.
However, stocks such as Richa Info Systems Ltd., Felix Industries, SoftTech Engineers, HDFC and Lasa Supergenerics, touched their fresh 52-week low.
Overall, 13 shares traded in the green in Nifty50 index, while 37 traded in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, Hindalco, Coal India Ltd, Tata Steel, ONGC and JSW Steel were among top gainers, while ICICI Bank, Maruti Suzuki, Bajaj Auto, Asian Paints and HDFC Bank traded in the red.
The BSE Sensex was trading 743.08 points down at 55504.20 at 10:19AM(IST).
Traders were seen piling up positions in Metals - Non Ferrous, Mining, Metals - Ferrous, Cables and Defence sectors, while selling was visible in Industrial Consumables, IT Enabled Services, Irrigation & Allied Services, Building Materials and Electric/Electronics sectors.
