North Korea blames US for Ukraine crisis
North Korea has accused the United States of being the "root cause of the Ukraine crisis" while defending Russia, in Pyongyang's first official response to Moscow's invasion of Ukraine. Russia ordered troops into neighbouring Ukraine this week, prompting global outcry and punishing sanctions from the West, some directed against Russian President Vladimir Putin himself. But North Korea, in a muted response issued in the form of a commentary posted on the Foreign Ministry's website, said the United States was to blame for the unfolding disaster.

Trump blames 'dumb' US administration for Ukraine situation
Calling the current US administration "dumb", former President Donald Trump on Saturday said he would have never allowed the Ukraine situation to unravel like this, reported Sputnik news agency. Recalling his term as a President at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando, Florida, Trump said that the world was a peaceful place because America was strong. Stressing that Russia "respected" America under his administration, he called current President Joe Biden "weak and grossly incompetent", which has led to the current situation in Ukraine. Washington was perceived as "powerful, cunning, and smart" back then, but "now, we're a stupid country", Sputnik quoted Trump as saying.

Google blocks RT, other Russian channels from earning ad dollars
Alphabet Inc's Google barred on Saturday Russia's state-owned media outlet RT and other channels from receiving money for ads on their websites, apps and YouTube videos, similar to a move by Facebook after the invasion of Ukraine. Citing "extraordinary circumstances," Google's YouTube unit said it was "pausing a number of channels’ ability to monetize on YouTube." These included several Russian channels affiliated with recent sanctions, such as those by the European Union. Ad placement is largely controlled by YouTube. Google added later that it was also barring Russian state-funded media outlets from using its ad technology to generate revenue on their own websites and apps. In addition, the Russian media will not be able to buy ads through Google Tools or place ads on Google services such as search and Gmail, spokesman Michael Aciman said.

The French Presidency on Sunday announced that it would ramp up sanctions against Russia and deliver more military equipment to Ukraine. The new sanctions would include national measures to freeze the financial assets of Russian figures as well as new measures to be taken with European partners concerning the SWIFT interbank system, the statement said. Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Saturday that France has agreed to supply military equipment to Kyiv as well as ban Russia from the SWIFT international banking system.

Australia to send weapons to Ukraine via NATO partners
Australia will supply weapons to Ukraine through NATO allies in Europe, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Sunday, days after Canberra said it would only provide Kiev with "non-lethal" assistance. "We are already providing significant support in terms of non-lethal aid but I've just spoken to the Defence Minister [Peter Dutton] and we'll be seeking to provide whatever support we can for lethal aid through our NATO partners, particularly the United States and the United Kingdom," Morrison said as quoted by The Sydney Morning Herald. The Australian prime minister explained that the NATO channels are the most effective way to expand the military support that his country initially announced on Friday.

Disappointing: Top Republican senator on India's abstention on UNSC resolution against Russia
Top Republican Senator John Cornyn has expressed disappointment over India abstaining from the vote on a UNSC resolution against the Russian invasion of Ukraine, alleging that New Delhi has avoided publicly denouncing Moscow while it tries to balance its strategic relationship with Russia. His remarks came a day after the 15-nation UN Security Council voted on the draft resolution by the US and its allies that would have deplored in the strongest terms Russia's 'aggression' against Ukraine.

US, allies target 'fortress Russia' with new sanctions including SWIFT ban
The United States and its allies moved to block certain Russian banks' access to the SWIFT international payment system in further punishment of Moscow as it continues its military assault against Ukraine.
The measures, which will also include restrictions on the Russian central bank's international reserves, will be implemented in the coming days, the nations said in a joint statement. The move comes after the United States and its allies slapped sanctions this week on major Russian banks as well as on Russian President Vladimir Putin himself, among others, as Moscow's forces pushed into the heart of Ukraine toward Kyiv.
The actions are aimed at preventing Putin from using $630 billion in central bank foreign currency reserves in the invasion of Ukraine and to defend a plunging rouble.

War via TikTok: Russia's new tool for propaganda machine
The Russian TikTok video has it all: a cat, puppies and a pulsing background beat. It's cute, watchable and hardly seems the stuff of state propaganda.
In 2014, Russia flooded the internet with fake accounts pushing disinformation about its takeover of Crimea. Eight years later, experts say Russia is mounting a far more sophisticated effort as it invades Ukraine.
Armies of trolls and bots stir up anti-Ukrainian sentiment. State-controlled media outlets look to divide Western audiences. Clever TikTok videos serve up Russian nationalism with a side of humor. The effort amounts to an emerging part of Russia's war arsenal with the shaping of opinion through orchestrated disinformation fighting alongside actual troops and weapons.
Analysts at several different research organizations said they are seeing a sharp increase in online activity by groups affiliated with the Russian state. That's in keeping with Russia's strategy of using social media and state-run outlets to galvanize domestic support while seeking to destabilize the Western alliance.
Across the internet, there's been a rapid uptick in suspicious accounts spreading anti-Ukrainian content, according to a report from Cyabra, an Israeli tech company that works to detect disinformation.

Russian invaders 'frustrated' by stiff Ukraine resistance: Pentagon
Russia's invasion force is being slowed and frustrated by unexpectedly stiff resistance from Ukrainian troops, keeping them outside Kyiv, a senior US defense official said.
The United States and Western allies are still able to deliver arms into the country to bolster the Ukraine military, and Washington plans to send more in the coming days to help them fight both Russian armor on the ground and assaults from the air, the official said.
According to Pentagon information, Russia now has at least 50 percent of its massive invasion force inside Ukraine. But the force is making slow progress on its original three-front thrust due to unexpectedly stiff resistance.
