Congress's Observer for Manipur, Jairam Ramesh tweeted, “It’s shocking that 48 hours before the campaign comes to a close, outgoing BJP CM announces that Indian Made Foreign Liquor(IMFL) shops will be opened. This is an insult to the women of Manipur! We demand an immediate withdrawal of the statement by the CM”.

In August last year the Select Committee of the Manipur Legislative Assembly had given its approval to The Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act, 1991 (2nd Amendment).
Following Manipur chief minister, N Biren Singh’s remark that of allowing Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) shops in the state if the BJP returned to power, Congress slammed BJP.

In a rally in Imphal East, N Biren Singh had said the state government would introduce IMFL shops if the BJP returns to power.
