EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
Live market updates: The key benchmark indices were seen consolidating gains in noon deals. The BSE Sensex touched a high of 56,184, and was up over 1,400 points at 55,932. The Nifty gained 439 points at 16,687.
The broader markets were putting up an impressive show outperforming the benchmarks. The BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices were up nearly 4 per cent each. In comparison, the Sensex and Nifty were up around 2.5 per cent each.
The India VIX index cooled off by 16 per cent after it rose 30 per cent, hiting a 52-week high in the previous session.
Among sectors, Nifty PSB index was up over 5 per cent, with Realty and Metals next in line, trading 4.7 per cent up. All sectoral indices held strong gains with Nifty Bank, Auto, IT, and Pharma, up 2-3 per cent.
