2022 Assembly Election LIVE Updates, Punjab Election, UP Chunav News: Hailing the Yogi Adityanath government’s work on the law and order in Uttar Pradesh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said no “baahubali” can now be seen, even using a telescope, and that it is only “Bajrangbali” everywhere in the state. Addressing an election rally in Bahraich, Shah also took a dig at the Samajwadi Party and said its chief Akhilesh Yadav cannot see the change in law and order as because of “dark glasses” he is wearing.

Speaking at a rally in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi district, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: “Parivarvaadis are so far from ground reality that they can’t see what’s happening. They want to come to power to increase their family’s stature and rule over you like kings. Our power isn’t about the mafia, but about the public.”

The fourth phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on Wednesday recorded nearly 60 per cent polling, according to Election Commission’s data that was last updated at 9.30 pm. Spread over nine districts, the 59 constituencies had in the previous Assembly election seen a turnout of 62.55 per cent, and, in the Lok Sabha polls, recorded 60.03 per cent voting.

Akhilesh ignored Muslim women for votes: PM Modi

ampaigning for the BJP candidates in Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday hit out at Akhilesh Yadav over the issue of triple talaq, saying that the Samajwadi Party chief “ignored the pain and suffering of Muslim women who became victims of triple talaq because of vote bank consideration”.

“An ill practice like triple talaq had left Muslim women and their entire families devastated. I would ask the pariwarvadis (dynasts) since you talk so much about family, why didn’t you worry about Muslim daughters’ pain? My Muslim sisters had to return to their father’s home with their young children, then why didn’t you understand the pain of their family? We may not be pariwar waale (family persons), but we understand the pain of every family because entire India and UP is my family,” said Modi at an election rally in Barabanki.

Biren Singh: ‘Senior BJP leaders campaign signals it should be fine for me after polls’

The tenure of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who formed the state’s first BJP government after the 2017 Assembly elections, has seen both highs and lows over the last five years. On the other, the 56-year-old leader has also drawn criticism over his government’s crack-down on dissenting voices and its move to make a series of arrests under the UAPA. In an interview with The Indian Express, Biren Singh, who is spearheading the saffron party’s campaign in the upcoming state Assembly elections, spoke on a range of issues related to his track-record and polls. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday promised to enhance the security of cows, while also ensuring that the state government will help protect farmers' fields from stray cattle. “We have completely stopped illegal slaughterhouses. I promise that we will not let gaumata be slaughtered while we'll also protect fields of farmers from stray cattle," the chief minister said, addressing a rally in the Tiloi assembly constituency of Amethi. Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, while addressing a rally in Bahraich, said he was confident that the alliance his party leads will hit the double-century mark.

As Shah, Mayawati pat each other’s back, BSP candidate choice has a message

Half-way through the Uttar Pradesh elections, the BJP and BSP seem to have reached an unusual common ground: on how well Mayawati’s party would do come March 10. First, senior BJP leader Amit Shah said in an interview to News18 that Mayawati remained “relevant” contrary to political predictions, and that the BSP would also get Muslim support apart from its core Jatav votes. On Tuesday, Mayawati thanked Shah for his “greatness” in saying the same, and said the Samajwadi Party was wrong in claiming that the Muslim vote would be cornered by it.

An analysis of the candidates fielded by the BSP, in fact, shows that the party may damage the SP on more seats than it will do the BJP.

One reason is the number of Muslim candidates fielded by the BSP in an election where the SP is hoping to pull ahead of the BJP by rallying all its Muslim and Yadav support, plus extra votes from other communities.
