The Central Bureau of Investigation questioned N Muralidaran, the executive vice-chairman and a wholetime director of NSEIT Ltd, the technology subsidiary of National Stock Exchange of India (NSE).
The agency is probing allegations of irregularities at the stock exchange, including against former chief executives Chitra Ramkrishna and Ravi Narain.
People in the know said Muralidaran was quizzed on Tuesday on the co-location facility provided by the exchange to brokers. Ramkrishna, in her statement to the probe agency, had denied allegations of preferential access given to certain brokers and blamed 'technical glitches' faced by the system for allowing them to place their systems near the NSE servers.
Muralidaran was asked to explain the facility, its working and how the brokers were given access, the people said.
The agency had earlier questioned Ramkrishna and Narain, as well as Anand Subramanian, who was the group chief operating officer and an adviser to Ramkrishna when she was at the helm.
Narain was the MD and CEO of NSE from April 1994 till March 2013, while Ramkrishna held the two positions from April 2013 to December 2016.
