Minister's V-Sign At Poll Booth Amid Row Over Son's Bail In Lakhimpur Case

Ajay Mishra Teni son Ashish Mishra is the main accused in the killing of protesting farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh last year

New Delhi:

A huge crowd gathered outside the Banbirpur polling booth of Lakhimpur Kheri when Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni arrived to cast his vote. Mr Teni's son Ashish Mishra is the main accused in the killing of protesting farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh last year.

On October 3, Ashish Mishra was allegedly driving the SUV that ran over four farmers and a journalist at Lakhimpur Kheri during a protest march against three controversial farm laws. He was arrested days later.

The incident occurred when the farmers were protesting against Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya's visit to the area.

The violence triggered outrage among opposition parties and farmer groups protesting over the Centre's now-repealed farm laws.
