
The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki Wednesday launched the new Baleno priced between Rs 6.35-9.49 lakh (ex-showroom, India) to take on the likes of Hyundai i20 and Honda Jazz.
The Baleno comes strapped with a 1.2 litre petrol engine. Maruti Suzuki said it has invested Rs 1,150 crore in developing the new Baleno.
“Baleno is a game changer model for Maruti Suzuki. It not only helped strengthen our position in the premium hatchback segment, but also helped establish the Nexa channel in India, which helped us meet aspirations of young and discerning customers”, said Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki. The company has sold over 1 million units of the Baleno in the past six years.
Overall, Maruti Suzuki has sold 1.6 million cars through its Nexa chain in the last six years. The Nexa channel contributes as much as a fifth of sales at Maruti Suzuki.
