
Following investigations by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) appointed by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, three police personnel -- an Assistant Sub-Inspector, a constable and a home guard under Amta police station -- have been suspended on Tuesday in connection with the ongoing Anish Khan death probe.
Assistant sub-inspector Nirmal Das, constable Jitendra Hembram and Home Guard Krishnanath Bera have been suspended for negligence of duty in connection with the death case, SIT sources told ET.
It is learnt than officer in-charge of Amta police station and another senior officer was called to the WB police headquarters to find whether there was any negligence on part of the police, sources said. The trio, who has been suspended, were on duty on the night Anish was allegedly murdered.
Anish's father had claimed that he had called police at 3 am but the police reached his residence only at 9 am the next day. The SIT, headed by Gyanwant Singh, ADG-CID, started the investigation on Tuesday and visited Anish Khan's residence. However, Anish's father Salam Khan that they have no trust in the SIT and demanded a CBI investigation.
