TVS Motor Company(up 0.15 per cent) were among the top gainers.
Balkrishna Industries(down 3.56 per cent), Ashok Leyland(down 2.33 per cent), Bharat Forge(down 2.04 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra(down 1.96 per cent) and Hero MotoCorp(down 1.64 per cent) were the top losers on the index.
The Nifty Auto index was down 1.07 per cent at 11298.15 at the time of writing this report.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 138.1 points at 17138.2, while the BSE Sensex was down 422.75 points at 57410.22.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 5 were trading in the green, while 45 were in the red.
Shares of JP Power, Suzlon Energy, Vodafone Idea, Adani Power and YES Bank were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Richa Info Systems Ltd., TCPL Packaging, Agri-Tech(India), Shekhawati Poly and Megastar Foods hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Restaurant Brands Asia Ltd., Nuvoco Vistas Corporation Ltd., GE Power India, Ujjivan Financial and Hind Nat Glass hit fresh 52-week lows in trade.
