Uttar Pradesh recorded a voter turnout of 21.18 per cent till 11 am in the third phase of the ongoing Assembly elections while Punjab, which is voting in a single phase today, witnessed a marginally less voter turnout of 17,77 per centtill 11 AM.
Fifty-nine constituencies spread across 16 districts in Uttar Pradesh are voting today in the third phase of polling. Congress-ruled Punjab will also vote today. Polling in Punjab will be held from 8 am to 6 pm. In UP, it will be from 7 am and 6 pm.
In Uttar Pradesh, polling is being held in seven-phases. In the third phase, where 59 assembly seats of 16 districts will go to polls, 627 candidates are contesting and over 2.15 crore people are eligible to vote.
The districts where polling will be held are Hathras, Firozabad, Etah, Kasganj, Mainpuri, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Etawah, Auraiya, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Jalaun, Jhanshi, Lalitpur, Hamirpur and Mahoba.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav is contesting from the Karhal assembly seat, which will also go to polls today. The BJP has fielded Union minister S P Singh Baghel from the seat.
Counting of votes in both the states, along with Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur, will take place on March 10.

Punjab Polls 2022: Punjab Reports 17.77% Voter Turnout Till 11 am
Punjab recorded a voter turnout of 17.77 per cent at 11 am on Sunday in the ongoing Assembly elections.
According to the Election Commission of India, Sri Muktsar Sahib witnessed the highest voter turnout of 23.34 per cent followed by Fazilka (22.55 per cent) and Malerkotla (22.07 per cent) till 11 am.
Pathankot recorded the lowest percentage of voter turnout of 12.44 per cent. Further, while Sahibjada Ajit Singh Nagar saw 13.15 per cent voter turnout.

Elections 2022: Arvind Kejriwal Urges People To Exercise Their Franchise
As the assembly polls in Punjab are underway, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday urged the people to exercise their franchise for the future of the state.
In a video message shared on Twitter, Kejriwal asked people to vote for good schools, good government hospitals and for the security of the country.
"Must go to vote for the future of Punjab which includes good schools, employment for your children, government hospitals in which you can get free treatment, elimination of drug addiction, safety and security of people of the country is paramount. All this will happen when you go to vote," he said.
He also urged the youth voters to go for voting and take along their elders. He also said to take pictures at the polling booth for memory.

UP Election 2022: Samajwadi Party Alleges Discrepancies In VVPAT, Claims BJP's Slip Issued Upon Voting SP
Soon after polling for the third phase of Assembly elections kicked off in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party alleged discrepancies in the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) stating that the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) issued a slip of the BJP as the voter cast his vote to the former.
The party asked the Election Commission to take cognisance of the matter and ensure "smooth and fair voting".
"BJP's slip is coming out after pressing the button of Samajwadi Party at booth number 121 of Bhognipur 208 assembly of Kanpur rural. The Election Commission should take cognizance for ensuring smooth and fair voting," SP tweeted in Hindi.

Punjab Polls 2022: 1,304 candidates contesting polls in Punjab
A total of 1,304 candidates, including 93 women and two transgenders, are in the fray for the high-stake electoral contest.
Counting of votes will take place on March 10.
Among many places, Amritsar recorded a voter turnout of 4.14 per cent till 9 am, Barnala 6.70 per cent, Fatehgarh Sahib 6.94 percent, Fazilka 6.61 per cent, Malerkotla 8.01 per cent and Muktsar 6.21 per cent.
