Live news updates: A total of 59 constituencies spread across 16 districts in Uttar Pradesh are voting in the third phase of polling on Sunday. Congress-ruled Punjab is also voting. By 1 pm, UP recorded a voter turnout of 35.9 per cent and Punjab 34.10 per cent.

The focus in today’s voting in Uttar Pradesh is on the Karhal seat in the Yadav family stronghold Mainpuri from where Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav is contesting his first state elections. The BJP has fielded Union Minister SP Singh Baghel against him. The SP has lost this seat just once since the party's inception in 1992.

The United States and Britain would seek to cut off Russian companies' access to U.S. dollars and British pounds if the Kremlin orders an invasion of Ukraine, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson told the BBC.

"The plan that we are seeing is for something that could be really the biggest war in Europe since 1945 just in terms of sheer scale," Johnson said.
