Foreign Minister S Jaishankar on Friday, in a message to the Western audience, affirmed that democracy in India has stuck deeper roots as he pointed that the country's democracy after 75 years is stronger and more people believe in the democratic system.
"Our democracy after 75 yrs is stronger, deeper, more people vote, more people believe in democratic system...more women vote today than they have ever done before. Democratic liberal order is not down," Jaishankar said in his remarks at an event organised in Munich by MEA & ORF on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
"Democracy in India has stuck deeper roots," he emphasised. "Liberal system means argument, weighing pros and cons, having open debate, sometimes having different points of views which co exists."
The event that also figured Eva-Maria Liimets, Estonia's FM, US Senator Chris Coons (Delaware) & Josep Borrell, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy also saw debate on Ukrainian issue.
Maintaining its position on Ukraine impasse notwithstanding pressure from certain quarters, the Foreign Minister pitched for diplomacy. "Diplomacy is the answer...challenges of Indo Pacific are different from challenge of Europe".
On Friday, Russia hailed India's balanced, principled and independent position on Ukraine.
"Landscape in Europe is far different than landscape in Asia..In a strange way cold war was a disciplining exercise..Asia has large number of territorial disputes, many more players. The best we have in Asia is Asean." Without naming China he also called for diversification of production Centres.
