A court in Baramati has sentenced a 38-year-old man to life imprisonment for allegedly raping a 6-year-old girl. Additional District and Sessions Judge J P Darekar passed an order in this regard on Wednesday.
The victim’s mother had lodged the first information report in this case on June 19. Police had booked the accused under sections 376 (3), 375 (b), 375 (d), 504, 506 of the Indian Penal Code and sections of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
The victim’s father is a labourer. The accused was an acquaintance of the girl’s family and she used to call him “Mama” (uncle).
The incident took place on June 18, 2020, when her parents had gone to the market. The accused allegedly asked her siblings to leave.
He then took the girl to a poultry farm, where he sexually assaulted her and threatened to kill her family members if she told anyone about what had happened.
“The girl’s mother later turned hostile and gave contradictory statements before the court. But the girl narrated the incident in detail to the court. Also, the medical report was crucial evidence in this case,” read a press release issued by the special public prosecutor.
The court held the accused guilty under sections of IPC and POCSO and sentenced him to “rigorous imprisonment for life till his natural death”. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000, to be given to the victim.
