Benchmark NSE Nifty closed 30.25 points down at 17322.2 amid selling in frontline bluechip counters.
However, stocks such as Crown Lifters, Dynamic Services & Security Ltd., Innovative Tyres & T, Muthoot Capital and Essel Propack, touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 21 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 29 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, Divis Labs, Adani Ports SEZ, ONGC, Indian Oil Corp. and HDFC Life were among top gainers during the day, while Power Grid, NTPC, ICICI Bank, SBI and UltraTech Cem. ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 145.37 points down at 57996.68.
Traders piled up positions in Telecommunications, Trading, Shipping, Agro Processing and Holding Company sectors, while selling was witnessed in Industrial Consumables, Tyres, IT Enabled Services, Aquaculture and Irrigation & Allied Services sectors during the day.
