
Music composer and singer Bappi Lahiri has passed away at the age of 69 in Mumbai. Dr Deepak Namjoshi, Bappi Lahiri’s treating doctor and director CritiCare hospital, Juhu, told indianexpress.com, that Bappi Lahiri passed away around 11.40 – 11.45 on Tuesday night. The composer has been ailing for many weeks and was suffering from Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
Lahiri was primarily known for his contribution in popularising the sound of disco music in India. Known for his success with Bengali films like Amar Prem, Mandira, Badnam, Aamar Tumi among others, Lahiri also contributed significantly to the soundtrack of Bollywood movies in the 80s and 90s (read Disco Dancer, Namak Halaal, Dance Dance, Sharaabi and more).
Bappi Lahiri was born on November 27, 1952 in West Bengal to a family of singers. An only child, the composer got his first break in the industry through the 1973 film Nanha Shikari.

After the news of Bappi Lahiri's death broke, Kajol, her mother Tanuja, singer Alka Yagnik, Sharbani Mukherjee and Biswajit Chatterjee were seen at his residence. The composer's funeral will take place on Thursday. CHECK THIS OUT

Bappi Lahiri made his film debut as an actor in a comedy film directed by Kishore Kumar, Badhti ka Naam Daadi. Kishore Kumar was Bappi Da's maternal uncle. READ THIS

In September last year, the singer had dismissed reports that he had lost his voice, calling such rumours disheartening. The musician last worked on "Ganpati Bappa Morya" in September 2021. He gave the music to the devotional song, voiced by the US-based Indian singer Anuradha Juju Palakurthi. His last Bollywood song titled 'Bhankas' was for the 2020 film Baaghi 3.
