A 43-year-old Bengaluru man — who claimed he was being remote controlled — rammed a rented car into the gate of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval’s residence in the national capital on Wednesday morning, sending security agencies scrambling.
The man, who police say is mentally disturbed, was nabbed by security personnel after the incident. Security was also stepped up outside Doval’s Tughlak Road residence, with the police checking all vehicles.
A senior police officer said they came to know about the matter at around 7.35 am. “Local police and a team of special cell immediately rushed to the spot. He was picked up and taken to the Special Cell’s office in Lodhi Colony.”
This officer said a team of intelligence agencies also arrived at the Special Cell office.
“They started questioning him and he disclosed his identity. The police then approached the Bengaluru police to verify all the facts,” the officer said.
The man’s family has also been contacted.
According to the police, the man seems to be suffering from mental health issues. “He came to Delhi on February 13 from Kolkata and searched for Doval’s address on the internet. He then took a car on rent and reached his home on Wednesday morning. His father was a lawyer and he is unmarried,” an officer said.
“He claimed to be operated via remote control after someone implanted a magnetic chip in his body. His magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) test was also conducted in a hospital and nothing was found,” the officer said.
After questioning, he was handed over to the Tughlak Road police station. The police there are taking legal opinion before lodging an FIR.
