Delhi Live News: Delhi Thursday recorded 739 new Covid-19 cases and five deaths in the last 24 hours. The number of active cases now stand at 3,026 while the positivity rate at 1.48 per cent. With cases dipping in the national capital, Delhi University North Campus has reopened for offline classes after nearly two years, with many students attending physical classes on Thursday for the first time since admission.

In other news, an improvised explosive device (IED) was detected in a ‘suspicious-looking’ bag found in Old Seemapuri on Thursday. A team of Delhi Police special team, along with bomb squad, rushed to the spot after they received a call saying that a IED was found in Old Seemapuri. The NSG and fire teams were called in after the police spotted the ‘suspicious-looking’ bag in the market area. The NSG then confirmed the presence of IED in the bag and defused it.

Meanwhile, on the occasion of Ravidas Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday offered prayers and participated in the ‘Shabad Kirtan’ at the Shri Guru Ravidas Vishram Dham Mandir in New Delhi’s Karol Bagh.

Covid-19 cases in Delhi stagnate around 700 a day, positivity rate less than 1.5%

After a sharp drop, fresh cases of Covid-19 in the capital have stagnated around 700 a day, with 739 new cases reported on Thursday. The positivity rate – the proportion of samples tested that return positive – stood at 1.48%, slightly higher than the 1.37% recorded a day ago, according to the daily health bulletin released by the Delhi government.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) considers a Covid-19 outbreak to be under control when a positivity rate of 5% or less is maintained over two weeks. Read more

One may have to shell out hundred times more if mosquito breeding is found in their houses, as the municipal corporation is planning to increase the penalty from Rs 500 to Rs 5,000 and Rs 50,000.

Avinash Bansal and Nitish Sharma, 2nd year Bcom students at Aryabhatta College, travelled from Meerut to Delhi on Thursday morning to attend classes. "We've been trying to find accommodation here, but they are all beyond our budget, and it has been difficult to shift suddenly. Till we find a place to stay, we'll have to commute," Bansal said.

Some colleges decide to offer students a more flexible approach

With Delhi University set to reopen today, some colleges have decided to adopt a flexible system for first-year students while some have decided to give outstation students a little more time to reach Delhi.

While DU had notified that offline classes would begin for all undergraduate and postgraduate programmes on February 17, it also notified that the examinations for first-year students — scheduled to begin on March 23 — will be conducted online in open book mode. Read more

A day after the death of four teenagers who were run over by a train, allegedly while clicking selfies on the railway track near Basai Dhankot station, relatives and family of two of the boys said they had been going to the railway tracks for past 2-3 days to make videos for social media.

Police said all of them were friends and lived close to each other at Devi Lal colony. All four of them were minors, aged 15, 16, and 17.
