Delhi Congress workers today gathered outside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s house to protest against the new liquor policy. In November, the Delhi government had implemented a new liquor policy that only allows private vendors to sell alcohol.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly raping and assaulting an 87-year-old woman inside her home in West Delhi’s Tilak Nagar. The woman is bedridden and was alone at home when the accused allegedly broke in and attacked her on Sunday.

The Delhi High Court has asked the Delhi Police to respond to a petition seeking transfer of trial related to the murder of a 27-year-old wrestler at Chhatrasal Stadium in May 2021, in which Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar is the main accused, from Rohini court to any other court in the national capital.
Justice Mukta Gupta in an order asked the DCP concerned to respond to the petitioners’ apprehension that it would be unsafe for them to travel to Rohini due to “topography of the place of incident, residences of hundreds and thousands of wrestlers” around Chhatrasal stadium where Kumar was working as the officer on special duty. Four persons died after being run over by a train on the tracks near Basai Dhankot railway station on Tuesday evening, said police. Police said that as per a preliminary probe, it has emerged that the four were taking a selfie on the tracks when they were run over by the train.
The deceased are yet to be identified, said police. The government railway police (GRP) investigating the incident said all four died on the spot. Read More
Amid a decline in daily Covid cases in Delhi, the number of patients under home isolation here has gradually fallen to 2,361, a steep drop of 80 per cent in the last 14 days, according to official data.
The number home isolation cases in February 1 was 12,312.
The number of containment zones, which were also slowly falling in this period, also registered a dip in its count to 16,154 on February 14 from 37,116 on February 1, according to official figures shared by the health department. (PTI)
The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to hear on March 3 the AAP government's plea on the contentious issue of who should control administrative services in Delhi, the dispute arose out of a 2019 split verdict.
On February 14, 2019, a two judge-bench of Justices A K Sikri and Ashok Bhushan, both retired since recommended to the chief justice of India that a three-judge bench be set up to finally decide the issue of control of services in the national capital in view of its split verdict.
Justice Bhushan had ruled the Delhi government has no power at all over administrative services. (PTI)
A woman allegedly stabbed a taxi driver near Rajiv Chowk in Gurgaon on Tuesday morning. Police said the taxi driver suffered injuries on his shoulder and was rushed to a hospital where his condition is said to be stable.
The accused woman seemed distressed and was taken into custody, the police said, adding that they are yet to ascertain the reason behind the attack.
According to the police, the incident took place around 11.15 am near the district court when the taxi driver, identified as Raghu Raj, was waiting for a passenger in his vehicle. Read More

Four years after several FIRs were registered against former JNUSU office bearers, police in Delhi have started probing the cases and summoning them for questioning.
Office bearers from 2017-18 have been called for questioning in connection with two incidents from 2018 — when protests against compulsory attendance had resulted in two Rectors being confined to the administrative block overnight after students gheraoed the building, and when ABVP and JNUSU had clashed post the screening of a movie on ‘love jihad’, with the former lodging an FIR against the latter. A 21-year-old student allegedly committed suicide at his home on Sunday, hours after being questioned by Delhi Police in connection with a robbery case. A proposal from the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) to change land use on the floodplains of the Yamuna to set up a solid waste processing facility has been rejected.
The EDMC had sought approval to set up the solid waste processing and disposal facility on around 31 acres at Ghonda Gujran in East Delhi. The proposal was rejected by the Principal Committee constituted on the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to monitor the rejuvenation of the Yamuna. It has recommended that the EDMC look for other ways to manage waste, and the land that was to be used for the waste processing facility may be retrieved for the riverfront development project being implemented by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay professor Rangan Banerjee formally took charge as the new director of IIT Delhi Tuesday.
Banerjee, a Forbes Marshall Chair Professor at IIT Bombay, is a B Tech (mechanical) graduate from the same institute. Later, he obtained a PhD (mechanical), also from IIT Bombay.

A fight broke out between two families after a 25-year-old youth objected to his neighbours passing lewd comments at his sister. The incident took place on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday at Northwest Delhi’s Bharat Nagar.

As Covid-19 cases and positivity rate declined steadily across the city, the Service Department of the Delhi Government has withdrawn the “Cancellation of Leave” order issued on January 5 to manage the coronavirus pandemic situation.
When Omicron cases increased and crossed the 1,000 mark, the Delhi Government on January 5 cancelled all granted leaves for all the officers, officials and staff deployed in its departments and schools. The order was issued to manage the Covid situation and arrangements such as vaccination, testings, oxygen, hospitals and others things related to the pandemic in the city. Read more

Delhi’s roads will soon see electric autos as the transport department Monday held a computerised draw of lots for allotment of 4,261 vehicles. It will soon start the process of issuing a Letter of Intent (LOI) to all successful applicants.
According to officials from the transport department, the main aim behind introducing e-autos in was to curb pollution and boost last-mile connectivity. The scheme was launched last October and the department had invited online applications for registration of 4,261 e-autos. Read more
In an effort to make markets a plastic waste-free zone, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation, in collaboration with the Indian Pollution Control Association, has started an awareness campaign.
This campaign will be run for a month under which plastic exchange-kiosks will be installed at different locations in different markets of East Delhi.
“In these kiosks, local people and shopkeepers will be given cloth bags in exchange of plastic waste and citizens will also be educated about the plastic waste management,” said a senior official of East Delhi Municipal Corporation. Read more
