Goa on Sunday reported 131 fresh coronavirus positive cases with the infection rate at 7.69 per cent and four fatalities due to the viral infection, the state health department bulletin said.

Gujarat on Sunday reported 1,274 new COVID-19 cases and 13 deaths, raising its tally to 12,15,290 and toll to 10,808, a state health department official said.

Mumbai on Sunday reported 288 fresh coronavirus cases and one fatality due to the viral infection, taking the tally to 10,54,050 and the death toll to 16,683, the city civic body said.

The Jammu and Kashmir State Executive Committee (SEC) on Sunday announced the lifting of the night curfew after almost six months and opening of educational institutions in a phased manner beginning Monday amid a decline in COVID-19 cases.

Daily COVID-19 cases in Andhra Pradesh continued to dip with just 749 fresh infections being reported on Sunday taking the total case count to 23,12,778. The toll rose to 14,697 with three deaths, an official bulletin said providing the details of the past 24 hours ending 9 AM today. The state on Saturday reported 896 cases. The daily COVID-19 cases in Kerala continued to drop on Sunday. There were 11,136 fresh infections and 146 deaths which took the tally till date to 64,07,383 and 62,199 respectively. Of the fatalities, 11 were reported in the last 24 hours, 58 occurred in the last few days but were not recorded owing to late receipt of documents and 77 were designated as COVID-19 deaths after receiving appeals based on the new guidelines of the Centre and the directions of the Supreme Court, an official press release said. With 32,004 more people recovering from the virus since Saturday, the total recoveries reached 61,84,080. As the number of recoveries were more than the new cases, the active cases went down to 1,60,330, the release said. As many as 60,414 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. (PTI)
Hong Kong reported 1,347 new daily COVID-19 infections on Sunday, down from the previous day's record, but the spread, with 2,000 more suspected cases, threatens the city's overstretched healthcare system, authorities said. Ladakh's COVID-19 infection count rose to 27,400 on Sunday as 61 more people tested positive for the virus, officials said. Fifty of the fresh cases were reported from Leh district and 11 from Kargil district, the officials said. According to the officials, no coronavirus-related deaths were reported the previous day and the death toll remained unchanged at 226 with 167 fatalities in Leh and 59 in Kargil. Seventy-four more patients — 49 in Leh and 25 in Kargil — were discharged after recovering from COVID-19, pushing the number of recoveries to 26,604 in Ladakh. The officials said the number of active cases in Ladakh dropped to 570 — 433 in Leh and 137 in Kargil. PTI
Around 44% of the patients who died in Maharashtra during the third wave in January had severe respiratory symptoms and complications, says a study by state government Covid-19 death audit committee.
The analysis found lower respiratory problems in 459 out of the 1,052 Covid patients who died in January.
The state government said in its order that the night curfew will now be in place from 11 pm to 6 am every day instead of from 10 pm to 6 am.
On Friday, the UP government released new guidelines according to which schools in the state will reopen for all classes from Monday. Additionally, private and government offices are permitted to function at full capacity. Restaurants, cinema halls and hotels have also been allowed to open, but they must adhere to Covid-appropriate behaviour.

The Nitish Kumar government in Bihar on Saturday announced that it would lift “all restrictions” that had been imposed in the wake of the recent COVID-19 surge. The chief minister, who chaired a meeting of the crisis management group during the day, took to Twitter to say that the new guidelines will come into force from February 14. Later, a notification issued by the state home department said that the restrictions which have been done away with include the cap of 200 attendees at weddings and funerals. Besides, schools can run “normally” for all classes. Earlier 50 per cent attendance was allowed for till class 8. (PTI)
Meghalaya on Saturday logged 86 new COVID-19 cases, five more than the previous day, pushing the tally to 92,933, a senior Health department official said. Health Services Director Dr Aman War said that two new COVID-19 fatalities pushed the death toll to 1,561. He said the fresh cases were reported from East Khasi Hills (22), West Garo Hills (20), Ri Bhoi (10), seven each from East Garo Hills and North Garo Hills, five each from East Jaintia Hills, West Jaintia Hills and West Jaintia Hills. Chhattisgarh on Saturday reported 754 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 11,45,694, while 13 deaths in the past 24 hours pushed the toll to 14,001, an official said. The positivity rate, or cases detected per 100 tests, of Chhattisgarh was 2.69 per cent as of Saturday, he said. The number of recoveries reached 11,23,498 after 115 people were discharged from hospitals and 895 completed home isolation during the day, leaving the state with 8,195 active cases, the official said. Assam reported a dip in new COVID-19 cases on Saturday as the state recorded 172 new infections, 95 less than the previous day, pushing the tally to 7,23,416, according to the bulletin issued by National Health Mission. Five new COVID-19 fatalities pushed the death toll to 6,601. The deaths were reported from Kamrup Metropolitan district (2), and one each from Dhubri, Dibrugarh and Majuli districts. The COVID-19 positivity rate declined to 0.70 per cent from Friday's 0.91 per cent. (PTI)
The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country crossed 172.75 crore on Saturday, the Union health ministry said. More than 44 lakh vaccine doses were administered till 7 pm on Saturday, the ministry said, adding that the daily vaccination tally is expected to go up with the compilation of the final reports by late night. More than 1.72 crore precaution doses have so far been administered to healthcare workers (HCWs), frontline workers (FLWs) and those aged 60 years and above with comorbidities, the ministry said. Maharashtra on Saturday reported 4,359 new coronavirus cases, over a thousand less than the day before. The state also reported 32 pandemic-related deaths in last 24 hours, the health department said in a release issued in the evening. The caseload in Maharashtra increased to 78,39,447 while death toll reached 1,43,387. The recovery count rose to 76,39,854 after 12,986 patients were discharged or recovered at home during the day. Rajasthan on Saturday reported eight more Covid-related deaths and 2,606 new cases, officials said. Of the new cases, 735 were reported from Jaipur, 215 from Jodhpur, 138 from Udaipur, 123 from Ajmer and 115 from Nagaur, according to the health department. A total of 4,973 people have recovered while 23,404 infected people are still under treatment, the official said. (PTI)
Gujarat reported 1,646 COVID-19 cases and 20 deaths on Saturday, taking its tally to 12,14,016 and toll to 10,795, a state health department official said. The recovery count touched 11,87,249 after 3,955 people were discharged during the day, leaving the state with an active tally of 15,972, of which 103 patients are on ventilator support, he said. “Ahmedabad led with 560 COVID-19 cases, followed by Vadodara with 371, Surat 116, Rajkot 96, and Mehsana 69, among other districts. Five deaths were reported in Ahmedabad, four in Vadodara, three in Surat, two each in Bharuch and Bhavnagar, and one each in Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Panchmahal and Dahod,” he said. (PTI)
Nagaland's COVID-19 tally on Saturday rose to 35,713 as 56 more people tested positive for the infection, 21 more than the previous day, a health official said. The COVID-19 death toll remained at 750 with no fatality reported during the last 24 hours, he said. Nagaland now has 503 active COVID-19 cases, while 32,450 people have recovered from the disease and 1,470 have migrated to other states, the official said. The COVID-19 recovery rate in the state now is 92.25 percent. (PTI)
Four more people succumbed to COVD-19 in Himachal Pradesh on Saturday, pushing the death toll to 4,062 while 409 new cases took the infection tally to 2,80,106, a health official said. A 13-year-old boy in Shimla was among the four people who died due to coronavirus, he said. One more fatality was reported from Shimla and one each from Kangra and Mandi, he added. The number of active COVID-19 cases in the state decreased to 3,986 on Saturday from 4,132 on Friday, the official said. (PTI)
Telangana on Saturday reported 683 fresh coronavirus cases taking the overall caseload to 7.83 lakh. The state had recorded 733 new cases on Friday. The trend of recoveries outnumbering daily infections continued with 2,645 people recuperating from the infectious disease. The cumulative number of recoveries till date was 7,65,239, a medical bulletin said. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) reported the highest number of cases with 168, followed by Medchal Malkajgiri 53 and Nalgonda 46 districts respectively. (PTI)
The Madhya Pradesh government on Saturday ordered the opening of schools and hostels across the state with full capacity with immediate effect, in view of the decline in COVID-19 cases, an official said. The school education department's order was issued in compliance of the directives issued by the state home department, the official said. All schools, residential schools and hostels will be started for Classes 1 to 12 with full attendance with immediate effect, he said. As per the order, COVID-19 appropriate behaviour such as wearing of masks and social distancing should be ensured during classes. Earlier on Friday, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had announced the lifting of all COVID-19 curbs, barring the night curfew, considering the drop in infections. (PTI)

The State saw 6 deaths and took the toll till date to 14,694, the bulletin said. The number of active cases was 24,454, it said. The recoveries outnumbered daily infections and also continued with 8,849 people recuperating from the infectious disease. Canadian police moved in to remove protesters Saturday at bridge border crossing that has disrupted Canada US trade. Protesters at the busiest border crossing between the United States and Canada remained despite new warnings to end the blockade that has disrupted the flow of goods between the two countries and forced the auto industry on both sides to roll back production. A city bus and school bus arrived on scene Saturday morning and police moved in formation toward them. One of the protesters used a megaphone to alert others that police were coming for the demonstrators, who are protesting against Canada's COVID-19 mandates and restrictions. Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday recorded 458 fresh cases of coronavirus, taking the infection tally to 4,50,331 while three more deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, officials said. Of the fresh cases, 252 were from the Jammu division and 206 from the Kashmir division, they said. The officials said Jammu district recorded the highest of 88 cases followed by 80 cases from Srinagar district. (PTI)
Sikkim's COVID-19 tally rose to 38,927 on Saturday with the detection of 31 new cases in the last 24 hours, a health department bulletin said. The toll remained unchanged at 437 as no new death occurred in the last 24 hours, it said. The state had reported 28 new cases and zero fatality on Friday. Of the 31 new cases, West Sikkim logged 17, followed by 10 in East Sikkim and four in South Sikkim. (PTI)
The COVID-19 tally in Nashik reached 4,74,373 on Saturday after 276 cases were detected, while the deaths of five patients took the toll to 8,870, an official said. So far, 4,63,752 have been discharged post recovery, including 500 during the day, leaving the district with 1,751 active cases, he said.
Kerala logged 15,184 new Covid-19 cases and 427 deaths on Saturday and pushed the numbers to 63,96,247 and 62,053 respectively, said State Department of Health. Of the deaths, 23 were reported in the last 24 hours, 122 were those which occurred in the last few days but were not recorded due to late receipt of documents and 282 were designated as COVID-19 deaths after receiving appeals based on the new guidelines of the Centre and the directions of the Supreme Court, a press release said. With 38,819 more people recovering since Friday, the total recoveries reached 61,52,076. As the number of recoveries were more than the new cases, the active ones went down to 1,81,347, the release said. As many as 73,965 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. (PTI)
Norway says it is lifting almost all remaining COVID restrictions as it doesn't see a major health threat to citizens any more, even though the omicron variant is still spreading in the Nordic nation. “This is the day we have been waiting for,” said Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere during a news conference in Oslo on Saturday. “We are removing almost all coronavirus measures.” He justified the move by saying that Norwegians are well protected by vaccines against the COVID-19 pandemic and the proportion of citizens who end in up in hospital has remained low despite the spread of the omicron variant. Paris police intercepted at least 500 vehicles attempting to enter the French capital Saturday, in defiance of a police order, to take part in protests against virus restrictions inspired by Canada's horn-honking “Freedom Convoy”. The police said on Twitter that several convoys were stopped from entering at key city arteries and over 200 motorists were handed tickets. Elsewhere, at least two protesters were detained amid a seizure of knives, hammers and other objects in one central Parisian square. (AP)
Hong Kong on Saturday reported its daily record of confirmed COVID-19 cases, at 1,514. The city is struggling with the worst outbreak of the pandemic as it tries to implement China's zero-tolerance strategy using a mandatory quarantine for all travelers and mass testing. Hong Kong imposed new restriction this week, limiting in-person gatherings to no more than two households. It plans to allow only vaccinated people in shopping malls and supermarkets. Places of worship, hair salons and other businesses were ordered to close. Beijing officials and Chinese state media warned Hong Kong against loosening any of the measures, saying that adopting a “living with the virus” policy would overwhelm its medical systems. (PTI)
Nursery and play schools would reopen on February 16 in Tamil Nadu, the government announced on Saturday after Chief Minister M K Stalin chaired a high level meeting to review the coronavirus scenario in the state. While children of nursery classes would be going to school again after a gap of nearly 2 years, exhibitions are also allowed now and with such fresh relaxations, almost all other COVID-19 related restrictions have been lifted. As per a fresh notification on curbs applicable from February 16 to March 2, upto 200 people could participate in marriage and related ceremonies and as regards funeral, 100 people may take part. While every central jail here reported Covid cases among inmates during the highly-transmissible Omicron fuelled third wave, the number 16 women's prison in Mandoli had a different story to tell. “None of our inmates were infected, and they include small children,” a senior official said, attributing the feat to strict protocols and lessons learnt from the second wave last year, which had crippled health systems across the country. The coronavirus death toll rose to 635 as one more patient succumbed to the infection, the official said. The state had reported 1,641 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths on the previous day.
