Ruling BJP in Assam is expected to finalise the candidate the for bye election for Majuli seat in Assam by Saturday.

A meeting of BJP State committee will be held on February 12 which will be attended by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The meeting will finalise a panel of names.

Congress has decided not to field any candidate for the Majuli seat. The party has left the seat for Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP). The Majuli bye-election will be held on March 7 and counting of votes will take place on March 10.

A meeting was held in regard to election expenditure monitoring for Majuli seat at the office of the Chief Electoral Office, Assam in Guwahati on Friday. The CEO Nitin Khade briefed about the steps to be taken for smooth conduct of free, fair and peaceful polls.

The CEO said to the representatives of the enforcement agencies that as per directions of the Election commission of India strict vigilance is to be maintained at the poll-bound district.
