Rajinikanth teams up with director Nelson for next project 'Thalapathy 65'

MUMBAI: Superstar Rajinikanth is all set to return to the big screen with a new project, and is teaming up with director Nelson Dilipkumar.

The excited film-maker, known for Tamil movies like 'Doctor' and Vijay-starrer 'Thalapathy 65', said he was elated to announce his next film with the legendary actor. "Happy to have associated with Sun Pictures and my dearest friend composer-singer Anirudh Ravichander once again," he wrote.


The makers announced on Thursday that the film has been tentatively titled 'Thalaivar169'.

Sun Pictures, the production house that's backing the film, shared a one-minute video on Twitter, announcing the project. "Presenting superstar Rajinikanth's 'Thalaivar 169', directed by Nelson and music by Anirudh," the post read.


In the announcement video, the trio could be seen wearing custom-made black suits, and posing for the camera. The superstar also struck his classic pose with sunglasses.

The announcement has surely brought some cheer to the Rajini fans. The post was retweeted 12.1K times, quote-tweeted 2,209 times, liked by over 42.3K people.

This is Anirudh's second collaboration with the superstar. The singer made headlines for the soundtrack of Rajinikanth-starrer 'Petta' in 2019. He is Latha Rajinikanth's nephew, and son of actor Ravi Raghavendra and classical dancer Lakshmi Ravichander.

He also was also thrilled to announce his collaboration with the 71-year-old and the director.


The project will mark the first collaboration between the 'Robot' star and Nelson.

Rajinikanth was last seen in the 2021 actioner 'Annaatthe', directed by Siva, which opened to mixed reviews on Diwali last year. Meanwhile, Nelson is busy with his upcoming action thriller 'Beast', featuring Vijay and Pooja Hegde.
