IPL DC Team 2022 Players List: Delhi Capitals will look to rebuild a strong squad around their four retained players -Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw, and Anrich Nortje.

As a think tank, each team will want a balanced team, with the core and the best thing Delhi has done is they kept four key players in their squad — a top-order batsman, a wicketkeeper-batsman, an all-rounder, and a quick bowler, thus doing the basics right. So what are the options that the Delhi side will look at during the upcoming auctions? Assistant Coach Pravin Amre has an insight. “Now, we want to get players, who can give us more balance basically, that’s our important goal, and that’s the challenge, to be honest.”

Here are the players Delhi Capitals have snapped up in the IPL auction

David Warner (Rs 6.25 crore)

Squad so far: Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw, Anrich Nortje, David Warner

Retained players:

Rishabh Pant (Rs 16 cr): Rishabh Pant, the swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batsman, was one of the three players retained by Delhi ahead of the 2018 auction, and paid it back with a season, scoring close to 700 runs. The Delhi franchise has kept faith in him this time too and has retained him before this edition’s mega auction as well. Named skipper for the IPL 2021 following an injury to Shreyas Iyer, Pant will be looking to make an impact this year.

Axar Patel (Rs 9 cr): Axar Patel, the bowling all-rounder from Gujarat, had earned his maiden IPL contract with Mumbai Indians in 2013, and a switch to KXIP the following season made him a household name in the competition in the years that followed. After being a regular in the KXIP line-up, Axar was snapped up by Delhi Capitals for a whopping Rs 5 crore at the IPL auctions ahead of the 2019 season, making him the second most expensive player for the franchise. He was later retained by the Delhi franchise for the IPL 2020 and IPL 2021.

Prithvi Shaw (Rs 7.5 cr): A batsman from the Bombay school of cricket, Prithvi Shaw has shown the ability to perform in crucial games. Captain of India’s Under-19 World Cup winning team, Prithvi was retained by Delhi Capitals ahead of the IPL 2020 and IPL 2021. The opener made in the domestic circuit and scored centuries on debut in Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy, and then added a third feather to his cap by becoming the youngest Indian Test centurion on debut in 2018.

Anrich Nortje (Rs 6.5 cr): Anrich Nortje was roped in as a replacement player in the 2020 edition for DC, and what a move that turned out to be! He not only blew everyone away with express pace, clocking the top four fastest balls of the tournament all to his name, but also picked up 22 wickets in the process and forged an epic bowling partnership with fellow Proteas pacer Kagiso Rabada – one that went a long way in taking us to our first ever IPL final.
