Earlier, India reported 71,365 new Coronavirus cases on Wednesday, according to the official data provided by the Union Health Ministry. The country logged 1,72,211 recoveries and 1,217 deaths in the last 24 hours. India’s active caseload declined to 8,92,828, as per the official data. According to the Health Ministry, the active cases constitute 2.11 per cent of the total infections, while the national Coronavirus recovery rate has improved to 96.70 per cent. The daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.54 per cent while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 7.57 per cent.

The country on Tuesday saw a significant decline in the number of daily Coronavirus cases. According to the official data, the country’s active case tally fell below 10 lakh on Tuesday. The dip in daily Covid cases has led to a relaxation of curbs in many sates. Kerala, for example, announced to ease Covid restrictions on Tuesday. The state govt reportedly asked schools and colleges to prepare to function at full capacity from February end. Even Mumbai which has seen a record number of Covid-19 cases in the past, will open by the end of this month. “Mumbai will be unlocked by the end of this month. We have made up our minds,’ Mumbai’s Mayor Kishori Pednekar were quoted as saying by ANI. The Haryana state govt also announced to reopen schools from February 10 for Classes 1 to 9. The Lakshadweep administration also decided to ease some restrictions imposed in the islands. A PTI report suggested that the administration announced that there was no need to carry a Covid test result for inter-island travel for those who had taken both vaccine doses 14 days prior to movement.

In some more good news, the third wave triggered by the Omicron variant of Covid-19 appears to have come to an end in Telangana, a senior health official was quoted as saying by PTI. Even Puducherry saw a drop in number of daily Covid cases with 186 new infections reported on Tuesday. However, the danger is not completely gone yet. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday announced that currently, Omicron variant is the dominant variant in the country. Mandaviya informed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that Centre has taken various measures to contain the virus. This includes strict monitoring of international air travellers and contact tracing of patients. He also noted that the current surge of COVID-19 cases in the country is showing a sustained declining trend since January 21.

Coronavirus Omicron Live Updates: Tripura reports 18 new COVID-19 cases; tally rises to 1,00,715

Tripura's COVID-19 caseload rose to 1,00,715 on Wednesday after 18 more people, 16 less than the previous day's count, tested positive for the infection, an official said.

The death toll remained unchanged at 916, with no report of any fresh fatality.

The state had reported 34 new coronavirus cases and one death on Tuesday.

The positivity rate in the state has come down to 0.64 per cent on Wednesday from 0.96 per cent a day before.

Tripura now has 535 active cases, while 99,196 people have recovered from the disease so far, state surveillance officer Dr Deep Debbarma said.

Altogether 68 COVID-19 patients have migrated to other states.

Tripura has administered a total of 50,29,287 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine so far. (PTI)

Coronavirus Omicron Live Updates: Delhi records 1,317 fresh Covid cases, 13 deaths

Delhi on Wednesday reported 1,317 fresh COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 2.11 per cent, while 13 more people succumbed to the viral disease, according to data shared by the city health department.

With this, the national capital's case count increased to 18,47,515 and the death toll climbed to 26,023, the latest bulletin stated.

As many as 62,556 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the city the previous day, it said.

Delhi had on Tuesday reported 1,114 COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 2.28 per cent and 12 deaths. | READ MORE

Coronavirus Omicron Live Updates: Telangana logs 865 new COVID-19 cases, one death

The decline in COVID-19 cases continued in Telangana on Wednesday with 865 new infections being reported taking the tally to 7,80,836, a health department bulletin said.

The state had recorded 1,061 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday.

The trend of recoveries outnumbering fresh infections also continued with 2,484 people recuperating from the infectious disease today.

The cumulative number of recoveries till date was 7,56,883, the bulletin said.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) reported the highest number of cases with 263, followed by Medchal Malkajgiri and Ranga Reddy districts with 67 and 60 respectively.

The death toll increased to 4,103 with one more fatality. The number of active cases was 19,850, the bulletin said.

The case fatality and recovery rates were at 0.53 per cent and 96.93 per cent, respectively. (PTI)

Coronavirus Live Tracker: 87 % of people in TN have anti-bodies against Covid-19, says sero survey

The overall sero-prevalence in Tamil Nadu among the people over and above the age of 18 has increased to 87 per cent in December 2021, the Health Department said on Wednesday. The sero-positivity rate in Chennai stood at 88 per cent, the study conducted in December 2021 across the State revealed. According to the data shared by the Health Department, the sero-prevalence which was at 32 per cent in November 2020 (first sero survey) dropped to 29 per cent in April 2021 (second sero survey) and again surged to 70 per cent in August 2021 (third sero survey). The World Health Organisation says coronavirus case counts fell 17 per cent worldwide over the last week compared to the previous week, including a 50 per cent drop in the United States, while deaths globally declined 7 per cent. The weekly epidemiological report from the UN health agency, released late Tuesday, shows that the omicron variant is increasingly dominant – making up nearly 97 per cent of all cases tallied by the international virus-tracking platform known as GISAID. Just over 3 per cent were of the delta variant. “The prevalence of the omicron variant has increased globally and is now detected in almost all countries,” WHO said. (AP)

Coronavirus Live Tracker: New computer model shows best ways to slow Covid-19 spread

Researchers in Canada have developed a computer model that simulates many variables affecting the transmission of COVID-19 to suggest the best ways to slow the spread of variants. The model created by researchers at the University of Waterloo takes raw data already in use to forecast case numbers and hospitalisations, and then adds other factors, such as vaccination rates, mask use and lockdowns, and the number of breakthrough infections. Coronavirus Live Tracker: Night curfew lifted in Himachal Pradesh amid drop in Covid cases

The Himachal Pradesh government has decided to lift the night curfew amid a decline in Covid cases in the state, an official spokesperson said on Wednesday. The number of active COVID-19 cases in the state decreased to 4,812 on February 8 from 9,672 on February 1, government data showed. The decision to lift the night curfew was taken during the cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur here on Wednesday, he added. The state government imposed the night curfew on January 5 from 10 pm to 5 am and revised it on January 31 from 10 pm to 6 am to check the spread of COVID-19. Coronavirus Live Tracker: US Air Force approves 9 religious exemptions for COVID vaccine

The Air Force became the second military service to approve religious exemptions to the mandatory COVID-19 vaccine, granting requests from nine airmen to avoid the shots, officials said Tuesday. The nine approved so far represent just a tiny fraction of the more than 6,400 requested by Air Force troops, and they come as other service members are challenging the lack of religious exemptions in court cases. The Marine Corps is the only other military service to grant any religious accommodations, allowing three so far. The Army and Navy have not approved any. The services have come under criticism for their failure to grant religious exemptions, with members of Congress, the military and the public questioning if the review processes have been fair. All together, the services have received more than 14,000 requests for religious exemptions.- AP
