Due to the pandemic, the world went digital and we were introduced to concepts such as metaverse and NFT (non-fungible tokens). While getting used to the new normal, the world also quickly embraced this tech update. Take this Pune couple for example, who tied the knot in a "blockchain wedding" in the presence of a digital priest.

Billed as India's first blockchain wedding, Anil Narasipuram and Shruti Nair got married on November 2021 in a ceremony that has never taken place in the country before.

The couple documented their digital wedding on a Twitter thread and also in a LinkedIn post. Now weeks later, the post has gone viral.

The two said their vows dressed in their beautiful wedding outfits while being seated in their home and in front of a digital screen.

"In an online ceremony, officiated by our very own 'digital priest' Anoop Pakki, Shruti and I made our marriage 'blockchain official' with an Ethereum smart contract that consecrated our commitment to each other in the form of an NFT minted on OpenSea," Narasipuram wrote on LinkedIn.

The couple first got a 'Registered marriage' done in a courthouse and then decided to immortalise their union using blockchain technology.

The image used to create the NFT was a picture of Narasipuram's wife, Nair's engagement ring with the wedding vows embedded in the photo. They also set-up a Metamask wallets and their digital priest minted the NFT on OpenSea before making a transfer to him.

Nair and Narasipuram's family and close friends attended the 15-minute-long 'blockchain wedding' on Google Meet.

Well, they aren't the only couple to go the digital way to mark the special day in their lives.

Nasscom president Debjani Ghosh was thrilled when she came across the news.

She took to Twitter to share the piece with her fans. "Whoa!!" she wrote, adding " In an online ceremony, officiated by a 'digital priest', the couple made the marriage 'blockchain official' with an Ethereum smart contract that consecrated their commitment in the form of an NFT minted on OpenSea... "

Earlier, a couple from Tamil Nadu had announced that they will throw a reception on the Metaverse in the first-of-its-kind event. The couple, Dinesh S P and Janaganandhini Ramaswamy have planned a Harry Potter's Hogwarts-themed wedding reception on February 6.

Similarly, another couple from Kolkata hosted over 400 people on Google Meet for their virtual wedding reception.
