TIINDIA(up 1.37 per cent) were among the top gainers.
Hero MotoCorp(down 3.34 per cent), TVS Motor Company(down 2.52 per cent), Exide Industries(down 2.37 per cent), Eicher Motors(down 2.16 per cent) and Bajaj Auto(down 1.82 per cent) were the top losers on the index.
The Nifty Auto index was down 1.53 per cent at 11383.95 at the time of writing this report.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 185.2 points at 17331.1, while the BSE Sensex was down 607.89 points at 58036.93.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 9 were trading in the green, while 41 were in the red.
Shares of Bank of Baroda, Reliance Power, Vodafone Idea, Suzlon Energy and PNB were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Ugar Sugar Work, Madhya Bharat Agro, Mahalaxmi Rub, Krishana Phoschem and Bombay Super Hybrid hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Ujjivan Financial, Jubilant Life, Neuland Labs, Lupin and Precision Metaliks Ltd. hit fresh 52-week lows in trade.
