IND vs WI: Team India win 1000th ODI, defeat West Indies by 6 wickets to lead series 1-0

Team India have defeated West Indies by six wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to lead the three-match ODI series 1-0. The Men in Blue hence were able to register a win in their landmark 1000th ODI game, which also saw them end a five-game losing streak.

Rohit Sharma starred for his team, scoring a brilliant half-century after the Indian bowlers had restricted West Indies to a total of 176 runs in the first innings. The home side were impressive and clinical in their approach as they romped to a comfortable six-wicket victory.

Earlier in the day, Rohit won the toss on his return from injury and opted to bowl first. India got off to a good start as Mohammed Siraj dismissed Shai Hope on 8 runs. Washington Sundar then struck in quick succession to remove Brandon King and Darren Bravo.

The Caribbean side were then able to weave together a partnership but Yuzvendra Chahal sent Nicholas Pooran packing and in the very next delivery, he bamboozled the West Indies skipper Keiron Pollard with a googly.

With half of his teammates already sent back to the dugout, former skipper Jason Holder came out to bat and he was partnered well by Fabian Allen, the duo were looking dangerous but Prasidh Krishna came to India's rescue and dismissed both of them.

The Men in Blue were hence able to wrap up the visitors' innings for a total of 176 runs, and in reply, they got off a strong start.

Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma weaved a decent partnership and Rohit even scored a half-century but he was dismissed shortly after by Alzarri Joseph.

Out came Virat Kohli, in search for his 71st century, and he was looking dangerous as he struck a few big blows around the park, but ended up gifting his wicket to Joseph.

A resurgent West Indies side scored two quick blows as they scripted the end of Ishan Kishan, and Rishabh Pant but Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Hooda combined really well to take their side across the line.

In a nutshell, it was a good day in the office for India and an important win on a big occasion.

Yuzvendra Chahal was adjudged the 'Man of the Match' for his four-wicket spell and he also reached a personal milestone as he crossed the margin of 100 ODI wickets.
