
Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar was laid to rest with full state honours on Sunday in the presence of her family at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, actors Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Vidya Balan and Ranbir Kapoor were among those who paid homage to the veteran singer. She died at Breach Candy hospital on Sunday of multi-organ failure at the age of 92.
Daughter of Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar and Shevanti Mangeshkar, Lata belonged to a musical family. Her father was a well-known Marathi musician and theatre artiste. She was first tutored by her father and later appeared as a child artiste in several of his plays.
In her career that spanned for several decades, she lent her voice for over 30,000 songs. She sung popular tracks in Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, and other regional languages.
Farhan Akhtar took to Twitter to write, "Listening to Lata-ji’s songs today & remembered dad telling me what a renowned classical musician once told him.. if you take a strand of hair and split it, then split it further and further, till it cannot be split anymore, that’s how accurate Lata-ji’s sur is. Pitch perfect.❤️"

Sharing a throwback video, Amitabh Bachchan wrote, "She has left us .. the voice of a million centuries has left us .. she resounds now in the heavens .. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🚩🚩."
Parineeti Chopra shared an old photo of Lata Mangeshkar and wrote, "I learnt hindustani classical music, and was told to do riyaaz on her songs. Students were tested on whether we could sing songs that she had lent her voice to, with even 1/10th her skill. She was the goal. She was the dream. She IS India’s music legacy. Thankyou Lata ji, for inspiring singers, audiences, and .. music itself ..🙏#LataMangeshkar."
Singer Shreya Ghoshal wrote a moving and heartbreaking tribute for Lata Mangeshkar. "This loss is personal. You were and will be my teacher. When I came to this music industry you blessed me with your affection whenever I got to meet you. Lata ji, you are embedded too deep in my soul but a part of me went away with you today," she wrote in her note.
In a clip, which Lata Mangeshkar shared on Twitter profile earlier this year, the singer spoke about how all the recognition she has earned for herself is because of the blessings of her father Deenanath Mangeshkar.

The official handle of Lok Sabha tweeted an old video of late singer Lata Mangeshkar singing 'Saare Jahaan Se Accha' on the occassion of Golden Jubilee celebration of India's Independence.
Lata Mangeshkar's 'Luka Chuppi' song from Rang De Basanti is one of her eternal tracks. Lyricist Prasoon Joshi in his tribute recalled how Lata Mangeshkar immersed herself in the emotion of the song. "Lataji caught onto the heartbreaking loss and emotion of this song. It was an experience seeing her immerse herself. She was a legend but dedicated herself to the song like a newcomer. She refused to take her art or her stature for granted. She took two to three days, memorised the entire piece, and rehearsed it. Only then did she record the song. I think the recording went on for seven-eight hours, and she stood all through despite her advancing age. Hina Khan paid her tribute to late singer Lata Mangeshkar by singing 'Pyaar Ka Nagma Hai.' She mentioned how her father was a fan of the late singer and made her a "fan forever too."
Politician and former cricketer Kirti Azad shared a picture that shows Lata Mangeshkar sharing the dias with the Indian cricket team after their iconic win at World Cup1983.
In her tribute to Lata Mangeshkar, singer KS Chithra recalled her first meeting with the legendary singer and how her compliment turned out to be Chithra's "most significant recognition."
"My first meeting with Lataji was in 1989, when she was felicitated at the Madras Telugu Academy after winning the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. I wasn’t invited, but I had a recording with SPB sir (SP Balasubrahmanyam) that day. He told me that he wanted to finish early and leave for the event. I begged him to take me along and he agreed. After the event, he introduced me to her. She said, “I have heard you singing.” That was a trophy for me, the most significant recognition," she said.
Salim Merchant, in an interview with indianexpress.com, spoke about how late singer Lata Mangeshkar always had a keen ear for different trends in music. "She had such wonderful stories to share. She would talk about working with legends like Madan Mohan. We would always also discuss contemporary music. She always had a keen ear for different trends. It’s priceless and precious. And as we bid her farewell, all I can say is that she will live forever. Her songs and voice will keep her alive among all of us," he said.
'Ek Pyaar Ka Nagma Hai' lyricist Santosh Anand broke down while remembering the late singer Lata Mangeshkar, who passed away on Sunday morning.

Sharing a clip of Lata Mangeshkar’s photo, Ayushmann Khurrana wrote, "Lata di’s demise is a huge loss to the nation. I grew up listening to her songs because she was my dadi’s fav singer. So, her loss brings back a deluge of memories and nostalgia. Lata di was and will always be the pride of India. Her name will be etched with glowing letters in the history of Indian cinema. It is not just an end of an era. It’s the end of multiple eras."
Randeep Hooda shared a photo of Lata Mangeshkar with India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and another photo with current Prime Minister Narender Modi. He wrote with the photos, "The relevance of the #LataMangeshkar to the history and self actualisation of India as a nation !!"

Singer Sona Mohapatra shared, "We had met in Sonu Nigam’s home & upon touching her feet to take her blessings she sang two lines of my song from Talaash, Jiya Lage Na & told me that I should keep singing such songs. I was shocked that she even knew me or a song of mine. She went on to regale us all with the changing language of songs, the lyrics & also cracked jokes about the political scenario, I realised why she had been at the top of her game for so long, so bright, vital & in touch with her environment.
