Delhi Live News: Delhi on Monday reported 1,151 new Covid cases, a drop from 1,410 on the previous day, and 15 fatalities with a test positivity rate of 2.62 per cent. As cases continue to dip, schools in the national capital reopened for classes 9 to 12 today. Authorities at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) permitted schools and centres to resume offline teaching and learning activities for students. This came after the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Friday allowed higher education institutes to resume physical teaching and learning activities amid declining cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the national capital. The Delhi University, on the other hand, continues to stay online.

Meanwhile, JNU VC Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit released first statement after taking charge. She said, “JNU will strive to implement NEP 2020″ as per the vision of the PM Narendra Modi and ‘the focus would be in constructing Indo-centric narratives’.”

Students hold protest outside DU VC's office to demand reopening of campus

Scores of students held a protest outside the office of Delhi University's vice-chancellor on Monday demanding immediate reopening of the campus, days after the Delhi Disaster Management Authority gave its nod to resumption of offline teaching in the capital.

The students hung an ''Out of Service'' placard on the gate of the VC office. The demonstration was organised by the Students' Federation of India (SFI). The SFI said over 400 students took part in the "gherao".

"The frustration of students is quite evident. You can see it on their faces, hear it in their voices. The VC must address the situation in the next two days or else we would have to break the locks on our classrooms ourselves," said Ankit Birpali, SFI Hindu College Secretary.

Dip in surgeries, delayed diagnosis, treatment: Cancer care hit since outbreak of pandemic

Two years of the pandemic have severely hampered cancer treatment, resulting in a delay in seeking care and diagnosis, surgeries being pushed back, and patients discontinuing treatment, said experts this World Cancer Day.

“When there is a surge, and related lockdowns or hospital closures for other treatments, patients who have already been diagnosed and are under treatment falter, miss schedules, and sometimes completely give up treatment. We have seen that compliance falls in such situations. Then, there are patients who have symptoms but do not or cannot seek timely care. By the time they are diagnosed, they are at advanced stages of cancer and the prognosis is poorer,” said Dr Prashant Mathur, director of ICMR’s National Centre for Disease Informatics and Research.
