Congress leader and MP Rahul Gandhi responded to the ongoing hijab controversy in Karnataka saying that not letting girls into class for wearing hijab is ‘robbing the future of the daughters of India’.

He took to Twitter on February 5 and said: “By letting students’ hijab come in the way of their education, we are robbing the future of the daughters of India. Ma Saraswati gives knowledge to all. She doesn’t differentiate.”

Coastal Karnataka has been seeing instances of Muslim students turning up at colleges in hijab not being allowed into classes. To counter girls wearing hijab, several Hindu boys have been turning up wearing saffron shawls, but they too have been barred from entering classrooms.

Such cases have been reported in five colleges in Udupi district in coastal Karnataka.
